Competed Live on ABC in 2005 for
Tiffany's Platform for her year of service was; "Keeping Children S.A.F.E" Preventing Childhood Abduction and Sexual Exploitation Tiffany became involved with the Jacob Wetterling Foundation when she was a sophomore in college as a volunteer and speaker. The Jacob Wetterling Foundation is a national non-profit organization that was founded in 1990 by Patty and Jerry Wetterling when their son Jacob, was abducted near their home in the small town of St. Joseph, Minnesota. Patty and Jerry Wetterling found that the problem of abduction and/or sexual exploitation was far bigger than they’d ever imagined; in turn they started the Foundation to provide prevention education to communities, along with Victim’s Assistance and Advocacy Programs.
Tiffany has spoken at 1,000's of schools, community events and safety fairs. She has worked with The Jacob Wetterling Foundation, Stop It Now! MN, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as well as continuing to share her message through United Way. She is very passionate about children’s safety fostered by a personal experience in her own life when she was younger. She focuses on several areas: 1) Education and Awareness. Making kids “Smart, Not Scared” and helping adults know how to help protect kids through talking about personal safety skills at home, keeping updated Id information, and knowing safety rules while using the internet.
2) Getting rid of the “stranger danger” mentality. 88% of the time children know their offender at least casually.
3) We need to look at photos! One out of six children are found because someone recognizes their picture on a poster or television. Children DO come home, and we must never give up the power of hope! 4) Using the acronymn of S.A.F.E to educate kids using the 4 Points of the Miss America Crown. I've been gathering some quotes I wrote or observations I journaled during my year about what I learned from working with celebrities, being called a celebrity, traveling to Miss America, working with the media (tv, newspapers, radio and reality crews), appearances I had, and the people I met. ENJOY...
DEEP THOUGHTS ...BY MISS TIFFANY O
-I've learned to most people, a "celebrity" is simply anyone more famous than you that has been on television
-Expensive possessions only impress those with enough money to know how much they cost
-Sometimes when you change dramatically, the world stays the same
-Children will sleep with your picture if you tell them they are special-whether you're a "celebrity" or a pedaphile
-Normal is a type cast
-Most successful people drink wine
-Miss Minnesota is as important as the governor to the state, but much more well liked
-If you've graduated from highschool, you're old
-People you've known all your life, still want your autograph
-When someone thinks you are a celebrity they will claim they are your best friend or have dated you even if you've never met
-The All-American girl can be brunette, athletic and intelligent, or blonde, made up and sexy
-The most beautiful pictures are those filled with unexpected emotions
-Flowers release Dopamine
-You can never thank your mother enough
-The best behaved children are in small classrooms with strict rules
-You can alter your entire life on a trip only to be expected to return to normal after a plane ride
-Too many gifts become junk, but always remember to be thankful
-People have their own agendas, find yours
-If you believe you only get 15 minutes of fame, that's all you'll get
-A Thank You letter can get you ahead in life
-Everyone loves dirt, but few plant flowers with it
-Beautiful people get more breaks, but also have more break downs
-I've learned that you can have fake eyelashes, fake tanner, fake nails, fake hair, fake boobs, fake teeth, and still be a real person (-was once told I'd learn this by a former Miss MN-it's true.)
-Remembering a name makes your name memorable
-Don't even LOOK like you're picking your nose in ANY way shape or form if you have a Miss Minnesota sticker on your window
-God Listens
-Newspapers will quote bad grammar
-Reality tv, is not reality!! 29-Angels exist and will send us little signs that sometimes we try to write off as coincidence
-Television doesn't add 10 pounds, chipotle burritos do 31-Being a "celebrity" means that no matter where you are there is probably ONE person that knows WHO you are and you are impacting their life because of it, even when you aren't paying attention.
